That's Charlie giving me the stink-eye after I did this to him:
I don't even know why I try to cut his toe nails myself. Every time I do, we end up with something right out of Helter Skelter. I even have one of those clippers that have the guide on them so that you don't cut too far into the quick of the nail. Yeah. See how effective that is? That's it. I'm throwing in the towel and calling a groomer. Sorry Charlie.

Don't bother with a groomer - just bring your clippers next time we get together and I can do them. Will try to teach you a bit each time so you can someday do them yourself!
We had our share of mistakes before we got good at it - now it's easy!

I would never attempt to do that myself. Would your vet not do it? Poor Charlie - he looks very cross and it must have been very stressful for you too!

If you aren't good with the clippers buy a small dremmel. Works great and you take off very small amounts. The trick is to take little bits at a time. It bleeds a lot more than it hurts the puppy. We've all done it.

Lola has ended up with a bloody paw (split nail) from playing at the basketball court. she didn't seem to care at all.
i have to check out some of these ideas!
my dog walker is a groomer. She does Lola's tail area...to give her some air back there...and the nails. she doesn't even pick up Lola's paws..just does it while Lola's standing on all four!
Goodness, not good at all. Buy some Quick Stop from your vet. If you ever do try again to cut nails, a little of the powder wills top the bleeding ASAP.
This is HT's worst nightmare. It is the one thing he won't do: clip the kid's nails. We must never, ever let him see this!
